#157 - Blog status

I originally had continued my blog entries to follow my time in the civilian world, and as an Army Reservist. However, I realized that most people were just interested in the sections on basic training and AIT. So, I've decided to just leave up the BCT and AIT blogs, and some occasional updates with any questions that are sent my way.

Thanks for reading, and for all your comments!

Thanks for posting all this. I'm going this route as active duty shortly and it's nice to read such a detailed experience of it.

Granted, I'm a male so I'm not sure just how much that'll vary. But, I'll be at Jackson and then Gordon for 21 weeks training as a 25N.

Hi Jennifer. Thank you so much for keeping this blog. I recently enlisted in the Army National Guard and you have really helped me to prepare for what lies ahead. I am even considering starting a blog of my own. Thanks a lot.

I'm so glad I found your blog! I'm a 27 year old mother of 2 and I joined the army reserves and leave for basic...again wednesday. I also had joined previously in Jan. of 2005 and got hurt during week 6 and was sent to ptrp. Eventually I found a way out because I had lost my motivation but this time I'm doing it for the job training and student loan repayment. I got 68P radiology specialist and my husband is actually supporting me but he's about it. So your blog was very inspiring that maybe I can get through this the second time around.

I just wanted to thank you for writing this blog, it has given me a lot to think about. I too am an "older" girl with a degree considering going into the reserves or perhaps the national guard. One question I have is....were you able to receive packages in BCT? I am considering having my family send me extra supplies but I have read that you are not allowed to receive anything other than letters.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

To answer the last question, yes, I was able to receive packages in BCT, as long as the items in question were not what the drill sergeants considered to be "contraband". I think I give some examples of what I received somewhere here in the blog - items like extra postage stamps, ink pens, maybe a favorite shampoo (but not overly scented). You certainly would not be able to receive something like a bottle of aspirin, candy (unless it was immediately shared and devoured by your entire platoon and/or DS!), or even flavored cough drops. The best policy is to check with your DS when you get there if you have doubts about whether or not something is allowed. I hope that helps!

Thank you very much Jennifer for taking the time to post this blog. I too am 35 years of age and will be leaving for Ft Jackson and then on to Ft Gordon. Your insights will be valuable for me as I am soaking in all the info I can get to better prepare myself.

Thanks again!

This has given me a lot of insight on what life at Jackson will be like for me. I cannot thank you enough for documenting this! I've read it over and over again and anticipate my arrival there immensely on 20091028, even though this blog is relatively old compared to my enlistment.

Now... if you know of any EOD blogs, don't hesitate to let me know! Hooah!
